Psychedelic Porn Crumpets kündigen mit neuer Single „Bill’s Mandolin“ ihr drittes Album an
Neben Bands wie King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Tame Impala und Pond bilden die australischen Fuzz-Rocker Psychedelic Porn Crumpets die derzeitige Speerspitze des sich momentan prächtig entwickelnden Psychedelic-Rock-Revivals. Diesen Status werden sie mit ihrem dritten Album gewiss untermauern, das auf den fantastischen Namen „And Now For The Whatchamacallit“ hört und Ende Mai erscheinen wird.
In mysteriöse und nur scheinbar vergangene Wunderwelten entführt uns nicht nur der Sound des Quartetts – sondern auch das Video zu „Bill’s Mandolin“, dem ersten Vorboten des Albums. In eine herrlich trashige, comic- und sagenhafte Welt voller Ritter, Drachen, Hexen, Giganten und weiteren Monstergestalten könnt ihr hier eintauchen.
In dem Clip und der darin gezeigten Odyssee des Protagonisten spielt auch eine Mandoline eine zentrale Rolle – die auch in der Wirklichkeit bei einer der letzten großen Reisen der Band hoch bedeutsam war, wie der Sänger Jack McEwan verrät: „When we were in the UK on our last tour I was given my Grandad’s old mandolin/lute thing which I remember playing as a kid. It was such a nice gift that I had to take back to Australia, the only problem was it didn’t have a case and we had an entire tour in front of us which spanned most of Western Europe plus Australia. I carried it through plenty of customs, slept with it, took it out to pubs, navigated the streets of Amsterdam and passed out with it. It became the tour emblem and once I got back to Perth I felt like I’d done the old girl justice. I wanted to write an Ode to Bill and the travels with the mandolin that summed up the tour and sounded as chaotic as the adventures that ensued.“
Vielleicht gelangt ja auch bei der nächsten Tour der Psychedelic Porn Crumpets inspirierendes Instrumentarium in ihren Besitz – möglich wäre es zumindest ab Mai: Denn dann kommen die Australier nach Europa und statten im Juni und August auch deutschen Bühnen einen Besuch ab: Am 1. Juni in Hamburg im Molotow, am 4. Juni in Köln im Palladium und am5. Juni in Wiesbaden im Schlachthof (als Support von Interpol) sowie am 2. August beim Krach am Bach Festival in Münster
