The Howl And The Hum veröffentlichen mit „27“ eine weitere Vorabsingle ihres kommenden Debütalbums
Das aus dem britischen York stammende Quartett The Howl And The Hum veröffentlicht Ende Mai unter dem Titel „Human Contact“ sein erstes Album. Nachdem Anfang April gleich zwei Videos zu dem Song „Until I Found A Rose“ erschienen sind, präsentiert die Band mit „27“ nun einen weiteren Vorgeschmack auf sein Debüt.
Der von pulsierenden Beats und flächigen Synthies geprägte Song „27“ verströmt dank der sehnsuchtsvollen Vocals des Frontmanns Sam Griffiths eine intensive Melancholie – und ist ihm zufolge ein Versuch der vielseitig ambitionierten Band, einen Fuß auf das Parkett einer „Depri-Disco“ zu setzen: „27“ is a song of sad triumph, recalling the sad disco pioneers: Robyn, Haim, Caroline Polachek, but done with a twisted mindset: that the narrator is so caught up in their own bitterness, they cannot let go.“
Auch für die dramatischen und metaphernreichen Lyrics des Stücks hat Sam Griffiths ein paar Hintergrundinfos parat: „We all want to make an impression on other people. It’s a childish trait, but we want other people to be thinking about us: it affirms our existence. „27“ explores the pettiness and bitterness of this quality by summoning two scenes: the second the person you love leaves, and years down the line when they regret what they’ve done, having never been able to conquer the memory of you.“
„27“ ist einer der Songs des kommenden Debütalbums „Human Contact“, auf dem das gesamte Gefühlsspektrum abgedeckt wird und bei dem tiefgreifende Texte auf ambitioniertes Songwriting treffen. Dabei sind sowohl ein Fokus auf die Essenz eines Songs als auch weitgreifende Refrains charakteristisch. Die in den Big Jelly Studios in Kent durchgeführten Aufnahmen leitete der Produzent Jolyon Thomas, der unter anderem bereits mit U2, Royal Blood und Slaves zusammenarbeitete.
