Waxahatchee präsentiert mit der Single „Lilacs“ einen weiteren Vorgeschmack auf ihr neues Album
Katie Crutchfield alias Waxahatchee hat mit der Single „Lilacs“ den zweiten Vorboten aus ihrem mit Spannung erwarteten neuen Album geteilt, das am 27. März via Merge Records erscheinen wird. Lyrisch widmet sich Crutchfield auf „Saint Cloud“ dem Thema Sucht und behandelt die negativen Folgen, die diese bei uns und unseren Lieben anrichtet. Auch musikalisch beschreitet Crutchfield neues Terrain, wie sich jetzt in der vor einigen Wochen veröffentlichten Single „Fire“ nachhören lässt.
Während die Vorgängeralben „Out In The Storm“ (2017) und „Ivy Tripp“ (2015) noch von lärmenden Gitarren bestimmt waren, streift Crutchfield auf „Saint Cloud“ den Wall-Of-Sound Schicht für Schicht ab, um Platz für ihre Stimme und persönlichen Texte zu schaffen. Das Ergebnis ist ein Album geworden, das von klassischen Americana-Sounds durchwoben ist, aber mit einem modernen Touch.
Waxahatchee kommentiert die neue Single wie folgt: „Lilacs“ was the last song I wrote for the record and it’s mostly just about obsessive/negative thought patterns. It’s about backsliding into old behaviors that don’t serve you and sort of letting your worst self get the best of you. I think that when people are in that mindset they can really try to turn the blame onto other people, so the song sort of plays out like a conflict you’d have with someone you love. It’s meant to capture that moment of heat that happens right when you realize you’re wrong or that your issue is more with yourself than with someone else – being flawed and fragile but making progress inch by inch. The chorus serves as a sweet little resolve. I wanted it to feel like the light at the end of the tunnel and the reminder that it can always and often does get better.“
Katie Crutchfield hat bereits einige Konzerttermine in Deutschland bestätigt: Am 30.Juni im Schlachthof Wiesbaden, am 1. Juli im Hamburger Molotow, am 9. Juli im Frannz Club in Berlin, am 10. Juli im Cafe Glocksee in Hannover und am 11. Juli im Kölner Artheater.
