Fruit Bats veröffentlicht den Titeltrack seines neuen Albums „Gold Past Life“
Fans von The Shins aufgepasst: Ende Juni erscheint das Debüt „Gold Past Life“ von Eric D. Johnson alias Fruit Bats. Sein – laut Eigenbeschreibung – „rustikaler Bee Gees-Sound“ wird meisterhaft auf dem Titeltrack des Albums umgesetzt und feiert heute Premiere.
Der von Johnsons weichem Falsett geprägte Song handelt von der falschen Vorstellung idealisierter Nostalgie – oder um es mit Johnsons eigenen Worten zu sagen von „love and fate and the meaningless random brutal nature of the universe. Y’know, small stuff and big stuff!“
„Gold Past Life“ enthält mehr Keyboard-Einflüsse als frühere Veröffentlichungen des früheren Mitglieds von The Shins und eine ganze Reihe von Gästen, uunter anderem Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), Greta Morgan (Springtime Carnivore, Vampire Weekend) und Neal Casal (Circles Around The Sun). Mit seinem Debütalbum will Johnson mehr Optimismus und Hoffnung in die Welt bringen: „Fruit Bats makes existential make-out music. But you’re also welcome to dive into it deeper if you want. Good pop music should be sublime like that.“
